Themes can completely customize the screen layout.
Four example themes are included. Press '1', '2', '3', or '4' to
switch to a different theme.
The included themes are called 'proto', 'winter', 'ubuntu1',
and 'ubuntu2'.

Source Archives
These are source archives made available for your convenience. This is the
quickest way to build GRUB 2 with gfxmenu yourself.
- 2009-01-19 Colin Bennett's GSoC'08 changes revision 876: gfxmenu, UTF-8 font engine support, and other features that are being prepared for inclusion into GRUB mainline. (Note: UTF-8 font support is now in GRUB mainline.)

Patches
These patches are also Bazaar merge
directives that contain information about the revisions. The patches are
based against the GRUB CVS HEAD at the date indicated in the patch file name.
Bazaar branches for the major codelines are located in the
bzr repository.
